FM’s Grounds Services consists of six divisions working
simultaneously to achieve an exterior environment that is
aesthetically pleasing and safe for students, staff, faculty and
guests to all of ASU properties. The hours of operation are
Monday - Friday, 7 am. to 4 pm. This page relates services that are
provided through customer requests, routine maintenance and
preventative maintenance systems.
In addition to the services detailed here, Grounds
Services also provides power washing, erosion control fencing, graffiti
removal, parking lot upkeep and maintenance of the Jonesboro welcome
sign on Airport Road.
Pest control
services are provided by licensed pest control technicians
who are members of the Arkansas Pest Management Association
and the National Pest Management Association. Primary duties
include addressing pest problems inside and outside of ASU
properties. Pest problems addressed include, but are not
limited to the following:
Intergraded Pest Management
Inspection of Facilities
Trapping
Aviary Issues,
i.e. bats and birds
Fogging

FM Grounds Services provide irrigation control for
the campus core (excluding farm property). This includes
maintenance of sprinkler systems across campus.
Responsibilities include:
Adjusting sprinkler heads, cleaning nozzles, and systems checks for functionality
Irrigation line location for construction projects
Cutting and capping irrigation lines

The Turf Maintenance Team is charged
with the preventative maintenance of lawn and green areas on campus.
Turf maintenance consists of soil treatments, seeding, fertilization
and weed control. Their goal is to create and maintain a uniform
appearance, and avoid discoloration or dead areas on ASU campus grounds.
Responsibilities include:
Soil Aeration
Over-seeding spray program for
fertilization
Application of pre-emerge and post-emerge herbicides, pesticides, fungicides,
and growth regulators
Top Dressing
Annual rye application
Sod installation

The Clean Sweep Division handles
general upkeep of campus grounds, focusing on detailed litter
pick-up and finishing work for maintained lawn and green areas
Responsibilities include:
Edging, weed eating, push mowing and round-up application during
growing season
Road and walkway clearing
Leaf and debris removal

The Ornamental Trees and Shrubs division is
responsible for landscape maintenance of plant beds and the planting and removal of shrubs,
trees and other foliage. This division also handles nursery duties
concerning greenhouse plants for future transplantation.
The duties of the Ornamental Trees and Shrubs
Division include:
Plant bed maintenance (weeding, pruning, mulching
and watering)
Installation and removal of plant material
Monitor of disease, insect and structural
problems
Weed
preventative applications and fertilization
Seasonal pruning
Dormant oil
application to protect trees from insects
FM Greenhouse maintenance (care of plant material)
Storage maintenance for landscape and maintenance
materials
Maintenance of landscape water features
(fountains)
Installation of new landscape elements

When inclement cold weather threatens the campus, Grounds Services arrives
up to 3 hours prior to their shift to remove ice and snow
from walkways, roads and surfaces used by faculty, staff and students on campus. Priorities are set based on the frequency
of use for a given area.
